PENGUIN PAINTING
Before the leap
When I started this acrylic painting, I wanted to experiment with my usual pouring technique. Instead of blending the background colours together beforehand, I deliberately kept them mostly separate and poured them onto one side of the canvas. By tipping the canvas horizontally, the colours stretched and dripped across the surface, creating movement while still keeping their individual colours and not blending.
With such a vibrant backdrop, I felt the foreground needed to be simple, so I painted a penguin using a much more restrained colour palette.
To me, the penguin represents those moments in life where we can see the possibilities ahead of us but hesitate to take the first step. He’s looking towards the colourful side of the canvas, imagining what could be, yet there’s still uncertainty holding him back.

About the Artist
I was born in 1993 into a naturally creative family, where art and expression were part of everyday life. My grandfather was a calligrapher and watercolour painter, and my father is a poet, which meant creativity, storytelling, and visual thinking were always encouraged. From an early age, making things felt instinctive rather than learned.
