FOX PAINTING
Sunrise
This painting was all about refining detail while keeping the overall composition simple yet warm. I chose a soft yellow and peach background because it reminded me of the colours you see at sunrise, and I imagined this fox making its way over the top of a hill as the first light of the day appeared behind it. Rather than experimenting with bold colours, I wanted to paint the fox as naturally as possible, carefully building up the different shades of orange, brown and white in its coat. One of the areas I spent the most time on was the fur, paying close attention to the small curls and changes in direction to give it a realistic texture.
I also tried something new with the eyes. In many of my previous paintings, I’ve added a small white highlight, but this time I painted a much larger reflection to give them more depth and life. It’s a subtle change, but I think it makes a real difference.

About the Artist
My artwork combines detailed animal subjects with expressive abstract backgrounds, creating paintings that are both bold and full of character. I rarely plan the background in advance. Instead, I build it intuitively, using layers of colour, texture and movement to reflect emotions, ideas and moments of inspiration.
Once the background has evolved, I begin painting the animal. Working from reference photographs, I often adapt colours, markings and other details to create an original interpretation rather than an exact replica. Each painting develops gradually over several weeks, with most commissions taking between one and two months to complete.
